Wes Montgomery-style Octaves

This style is one of the most imitated and recycled sounds in the history of the guitar, yet many players are either not familiar with it, or simply play it wrong.

Wes Montgomery was one of the all-time greats of jazz guitar, and his influence has stretched far and wide, particularly with this highly recognizable style and technique.

These Montgomery-style octaves are best accomplished with the thumb "brush" technique, something that Jimi Hendrix utilized at Woodstock in his jam "Villanova Junction.”—Arlen Roth
