Gibson Supports the Underage Festival in London

Jeremy Singer | 08.05.2008

The 2008 Underage Festival is returning to Victoria Park, London E9 for its second year. The world’s first incarnation of the Underage festival in 2007 was an unprecedented summer sensation and this year’s line up is bigger and bolder, featuring a line up of some of the UK’s hottest new bands. The Underage Festival is the world's first credible music festival for those aged 14 to 18 only.

Headlining the 2008 Underage Festival are Gallows, the most unpredictable, riotous, rock n’ roll band, whose particular brand of hard core punk is sure to provide one of the seminal festival moments of 2008. Following in their slip stream are Foals, whose recently released debut album was one of the most eagerly anticipated records in recent years and The Horrors, those big haired, squid-flinging, art school ghouls who bring their Goth-garage to Victoria Park.

The Gibson Tour Bus will make its debut appearance at the Underage Festival. The Gibson Guitar European tour bus is one of only five in the world and it will be parked backstage exclusively for The Underage Festival 2008. The Gibson Guitar Bus will be available for use free of charge by the many performing Underage bands, media partners and press as an alternative interview and photographic space as well as hospitality.

The Gibson Guitar bus contains all the necessary requirements and luxuries for today's artists, press and specially invited guests to enjoy and feel like a rock star. The Gibson Guitar Bus is a rock n roll experience in its own right and provides a taste of the heritage and prestige that Gibson Guitar represents around the world. The Gibson Tent will also be on display in the main public area at Underage Festival exhibiting a variety of Gibson and Epiphone guitars.

Playing across the other stages are leading lights of the UK’s alternative music scene including, Bombay Bicycle Club, Cheeky Cheeky and the Nosebleeds, Count And Sinden, Florence And The Machine, Fryars, Ipso Factor, Operator Please, Poppy And The Jezebels, Scum, Sons And Daughters, Team Waterpolo, The Rifles, Those Dancing Days, Wild Beasts, XX Teens

Last year’s festival received a wealth of positive reviews and plaudits from the media. From Sunday Times Style and The Observer to Teen Vogue and Time Magazine to Artrocker and NME to the BBC 6 o’clock news, this was an event that captured the imagination of a nation and tapped into a vibrant and buoyant scene set by Britain’s youth.

Underage co-founder Sam Kilcoyne, now a veteran at 16 years old and recent winner of the Media Guardian’s ‘Rising Star Of The Year’ award for the 2007 Underage Festival has returned with his unbridled passion to curate the summer’s hottest ticket event. With not one complaint and an impeccably behaved crowd in 07 the organizers will this year be increasing the capacity from 5,000 to 7,000 to meet the insatiable demand of the underage music scene and putting together a line up strong enough to wish you were 16 all over again.

Jason Carter, Head of Live Events Radio 1 and 1Xtra said "Radio 1 are delighted to be returning for the second year to the underage festival. The festival has a great line-up and is building in reputation year on year. It's fantastic to see credible events emerging that cater for the younger end of the audience"
